A Muslim Blogger

The current climate makes me re-think a lot of things. For example, I recently applied for Canadian citizenship. So before I signed a petition yesterday asking Justin Trudeau to stop funding UNRWA, I paused, wondering if this could somehow damage my chance in this application process. Similar hesitation before I joined a campaign this week to write to Ontario’s Attorney General, asking him to pass a law restricting protests from taking place in close proximity to community institutions, including houses of worship, community centres, schools and hospitals. I did sign, and I did write, but before October 7, thoughts like this would never cross my mind.

There’s something making the rounds online right now.  A Muslim who calls himself/herself Hoda Jannat, has posted a blog that reveals an awful lot about Gaza and Hamas. It’s a terrific post, so much so that the Arab world is challenging it as real. Not much can be found out about Hoda Jannat (hence my lack of clarity about Hoda’s gender), and there are those in the Arab world who say that Hoda Jannat is actually a Jew “spreading Israeli propaganda” under a pseudonym*.

Why does this irk me so? Because in my post-October-7-rethinking-everything brain, I immediately fear that the next step will be some Jew-hating Muslim writing under an Israeli pseudonym, spreading Hamas propaganda lies. There is no shortage of misguided Jews who speak out against Israel, ignoring the fact that there are hostages, happily getting sucked into the Hamas narrative and spreading it as truth. We certainly don’t need a Jew-hater posing as one of us so as to give his words credibility. That was my fear the moment I finished reading the blog post. Instead of being glad that pro-Israel facts are being shared in a viral blog, that’s where my head goes.

Here’s the blog. All of Hoda Jannat’s points begin the same way:

“WE SUDDENLY DISCOVERED. . . “

1. . . .that in the Gaza Strip, where 2 million people live, there are 36 hospitals. There are Arab countries with a population of 30 million that do not have that many hospitals.
2. . . . that Gaza receives free water, electricity, gas and fuel from Israel. Of course, there is not a single Arab citizen anywhere else in the world who does not pay for water, electricity and gas.
3. . . .that Gaza receives 30 million dollars a month only from Qatar. And 47 million dollars a month from UNRWA. And 50 million dollars a month from America. There are Arab countries drowning in debt and can’t find anyone who can give them even one million dollars.
4. . . .that our minds were programmed by the lies of the Muslim Brotherhood media.
5. . . .that children in Gaza are not children as we normally imagine children, but terrorist children with machine guns and suicide belts who have undergone special training by Hamas.
6. . . .that the schools, hospitals and mosques in Gaza cover terrorist headquarters and ammunition depots with underground tunnels of Hamas.
7. . . .that in Gaza there is an underground “metro” of Hamas that extends over 500 km. (Aliza’s note: Actually, the underground tunnels in Gaza are longer than the entire underground train system in London, UK.)
8. . . .that rockets and mortars are kept in children’s rooms in Gaza homes.
9. . . .that most of the “citizens” in Gaza support Hamas and other terrorist groups, elected Hamas in democratic elections, and celebrated the massacre on October 7.
10.. . .that some of the so-called reporters and journalists in Gaza who work for the Western media CNN, AP, Reuters and others turned out to be Hamas terrorists who participated in the October 7 massacre.
11. . . .that the so-called ‘peace activists’ and ‘workers of international human rights organizations’ of the UN, the Red Cross and the WHO, turned out to be terrorists and corrupt Hamas.

Whoever Hoda Jannat is, I am glad that some of the facts are now circulating in Arabic among people who need to see them. I do look forward to a day when I won’t be re-thinking and worrying about repercussions of everything. But that’s nothing in the grand scheme of things. Let’s get the hostages home!

Am Yisrael Chai!

*We actually know most of these points to be facts.  I’ve deleted some from this list because, although they might be true, I haven’t verified them and they seem farfetched.
