Bar & Bat Mitzvah
At The Song Shul, boys and girls become Bar- and Bat-Mitzvah at the age of 13. The idea behind our comprehensive and family-oriented program is to immerse 11- and 12-year olds in creative study in preparation for their big day, while offering ways for them to connect with their religion and culture.
Beginning any time after age 11, long before your child begins studying a Haftarah or Torah portion, The Song Shul’s hands-on interactive program will engage your child in discussion, writing, and ritual practice, including:
- Who I Am
- Feelings & Thoughts
- Synagogue Attendance
- Jewish Home Rituals
- Holiday Customs throughout the year
- Life-Cycle Events
- Giving Time to the Synagogue
- Giving Tzedakah
- Special project
This is an exciting interactive course, and one which can be enhanced even further by the involvement of family members. By the time the actual Torah and Haftarah study begins, your child will have a much more thorough understanding of what it means to live Jewishly, and how he/she fits into the picture. Even if your child has demanding schoolwork and a full extra-curricular activity schedule, you will be amazed to see how easily and enjoyably The Song Shul’s Bar/Bat-Mitzvah program fits in.
